Alfa Romeo GTV6 - Your Last Chance To Buy One?
The Alfa Romeo GTV6 with a Busso engine, either the 2.5 V6 or the 3.0 V6 has always been a real bargain compared to it's contemporaries such as the 105-series GTV, or the rarer "SZ" but this is now changing, as prices for good 116 series GTV6's are rising quickly! Chris The Alfa Nut discusses why the Guigiaro - designed GTV6 is so good and takes a drive in a fantastic example of a 3.0 Alfa 75 - engined version. #alfaromeo #classicalfa #alfa #classic #alfagtv

My 1987 barn find Alfa Romeo 75 V6 is finally MOT'd and road legal. The Alfa 75 was a very important model for Alfa Romeo and until the 952 series Giulia, was the last model produced with rear-wheel-drive. Featuring a transaxle gearbox, inboard rear brakes and the weirdest handbrake you've ever seen, Chris the Alfa Nut takes this "barn find" Alfa 75 through some recommissioning work and finally...

well said Bro; Fall in Love to her at 1st sight since 1988. Only almost after 40 years, my dreams came through with kinds of treatment to be done...
When that engine is set up right the car will go off the clock on a flat road
Bought one a couple months ago and getting it back on the road. Can't wait to drive it. Young person here, wanted something different than an old Datsun
That rear view of the white gtv in need of resto…. Damn if there are many cars that look so good from the rear aspect.
Regarding the 'crashy' ride being 'solved' by fitting new Goodyear tyres. Almost any set of new tyres, even cheap ones will mask the 'crashy' ride for a while but it does not last long and certainly doesn't solve the problem.
Ok, maybe it was just that the previous tyres were crap! The ride has remained much better however. What would you recommend as a “solution” then?
Can you just install the turbo in the original engine
I had a 1976 1.8 GT , most fun driving car l ever had , miss it greatly
Great video, I agree, love mine.
All and there is a few more 😃
What an absolutely fucking gorgeous car.
No arguments from me! 😉👍🏻
😂😂😂 Omg that made me laugh out loud. Never seen a rear seat come away like that under braking hehe
Haha yep it’s a bit embarrassing! 😄 I need to find a suitable bolt and fasten it down securely. I keep forgetting!
Great video, thanks 👍
Great review 👍 thanks!
Thanks for watching Richard - are you considering one or have you got one already?
Lovely...but come on, the 205 GTi was one hell of a pug :-)
Hi mate, thanks for watching! Yes I agree, my dislike is really only for the horrid 2000-2010 era Pugs, the 205, 309 and 405’s were all great drivers cars
Best car ever.
Thanks for watching! I’ve just passed 30k miles and still love every minute spent behind the wheel 😍
i have my buzzer set to 150KM/H in my QV. its my "U will lose your licens alarm during the day time" and boy do u get there fast.
One thing about remote windows, mine 159 is from france and they go up as well
It's good that you didn't eat your chips !!!!
I'm on my 2nd 1.4 multiair, both have been great with no or very little issues, love em
What would you say is the upkeep cost on Guliettas? Im looking into buying one and im hesitant about it.
@@MrCukc I've had no reliability issues, I've had my current one about 8 months, used pretty much every day, had it serviced and timing belt changed, not missed a beat
In my humble opinion, no car has ever needed a better wheel/tyre spec than the Montreal… the original has never sat well to my eye, it’s a little Italian muscle car without the muscle. I’ve seen Montreals sat alongside mustangs and despite looking way better than the stang, it never looked muscley… so if it were mine, I’d garage the original wheels and throw on a contemporary set of slightly wider wheels front and rear and maybe go up 1 inch in diameter, with a lower profile wider tyre… nothing too crazy maybe just an inch at the rear and 1/2 at the front… then it would be a very muscley looking unit.
Have had a 2013 1.4 multi air for 5 yrs. My only expense so far, after 50k miles, is soon to be 1.7K for a multi air unit incl’ labour. Occasional cut out problems that an Alfa dealer couldn’t identify. It’s commonly known, now, that the manufacturer did not specify that the multi air units filter needs periodic changes, hence the compression problem due to build up of oil - not happy!!
Gross - a diesel… I’m with the mayor, get that stinky tractor pile of crap out of the city!! Why on earth do you buy a nice Alfa and get one with a tractor engine…?!
When its for your Wife and she doesn’t like paying for fuel!
Also its the most sophisticated diesel engine on the market currently 😂
@@TheAlfaNutThat’s like saying it’s the most comfortable dose of the clap… And no, it’s not even remotely close to the most sophisticated!! It’s an old GM engine… Amazing how people are ok with a highly polluting and harmful to health engine because “it saves me money”…
Great video, these are without a doubt the sexiest sports cars on the planet. Insanely fast too. The last of the petrol Quadrifoglios have future classics written all over them. ❤ I have one identical to the one in your video except the roof is painted as I like its looks better that way. I’ve owned it for about six months and haven’t found anything to dislike yet! Cheers from an Australian fan 👍🏽🎉🇮🇹
Just watched this video, will this car become a collectors choice, will it increase in value,🤔
Hi Jim, thanks for watching. Probably only the 3.2 V6 version for the foreseeable future - diesel engined cars will never be worth as much as a petrol engined equivalent.
Oh well, the reason I asked was I've just gone and bought this car KX57GGV 🤣
@@jimbryson5922Haha oh I see! You must have bought it from a guy in Scotland then I’m guessing? She was a great car - hope you enjoy mate 👍🏻😎
Yes,a English guy living here,he bought it of his brother down south
If you know you know 😊
After two Alfasuds, I bought a like new GTV6 from 1983 in 1985 and drove it until 2005. I loved the car very much, but even though it was meticulously maintained and driven, nearly every month something went wrong and it kept breaking down. I had three new, incredibly expensive gearboxes installed. The gearboxes no longer broke when Castrol's fully synthetic transmission oil TAF-X came onto the market. Rust was a constant companion. In addition, you almost always sweated without A/C. A great car, but far too expensive to maintain.
I have to admit... I have wiped the floor with some people in my Alfa as well. Sometimes they ask for it no matter how much you try to ignore them ❤
The heated steering wheel is definitely a welcoming feature on a cold winter's morning. By the way wonderful and amazing vehicle choice and a excellent video review ❤
I have one. Third in 29 years. I will never depart it and i have most parts triple. As soon as my barn is converted into a garage (8x13m)/workshop, i will start restoring the car.
My dream car. Great detailed video!
Yes, definitely, these cars love the sun. It doesn't matter where they are... were designed for dig it. I say and listen the same song, on my 79's white Spider, in Seville, Andalusia. Congratulations on yours in UK...and beautiful video too😉
Ola Manuel! Thanks for watching my friend, I hope you enjoy the Summer in your Spider 😎👍🏻🍺
@@TheAlfaNut Thx and enjoy
I subscribed mainly because of the effort you put in your logo (Alfa Nut).. Says alot 🎉
Haha, well that’s great to hear mate - thanks very much for subscribing! Part of my problem is that I am my own worst critic and have high standards. A very busy life sometimes means that I can’t post regularly and I don’t like putting out “boring” videos (unlike some regular posting channels) but I’m hoping to be able to focus full time on the channel soon. You seem to be sitting on an Audi in your avatar but I assume you must like other brands too? Cheers Chris
There is james bond movie octoposy, where movie stars with bond racing red alfa gtv 6 ,but this scene is for some reason cut of .I used to watch on you tube every morning, to fill my morning energy,,I don't know who!and why someone cut this amazing scane of the beginning of this movie
I didn’t know about that - I will look for it. Thanks for watching mate! 😎👍🏻
If Kahn was trapped in the boot, I'm sure the car would have been driven into the Thames River by someone.
Yes, very tempting isn’t it? Sadly he declined my offer to star in the video! 😄😆
Fantastic car, good review, but the music was too loud...and useless. Please don't put any music while you review cars, especially when the engine sounds so good.
Yes don’t worry I have learned a lot in 5 years since this video was made! 👍🏻
Im a Ferrari fan who has been affected by the Alfa Romeo virus. I do drive a Hyundai I30 n line sedan but the Alfa Romeo Guilia Veloce will be my next car. I gotta drive a Alfa Romeo. Veloce for me is really best variant. I live in Australia and the Quadrifoglio is too expensive to buy and maintain since I live in Australia there is no chance of using its full potential. As a kid despite me desiring Ferraris I always had a soft spot for Alfa Romeos and the Alfa Romeo GT was my go to car in Gran Turismo 4.
Hi mate, thanks for watching and commenting 👍🏻. Are speed restrictions bad in Oz then? The Giulia Quadrifoglio is too expensive to buy and maintain in every country! 🥴😂. The Hyundai i30N is a quick car, looks like a lot of fun!
I ended up with a Multiair 2012 170hp - I enjoy it. I was quite open to a diesel (coming from a stolen fabia vrs mk1) but CAZ in Birmingham (uni) and Bristol (family) made a compliant one thousands of pounds more so I bought the car that produces more CO2!
Nice video thank you. I am in the process to buy a new car (I have a rs3 for the moment) And the alfa is on the list To use as a daily, as a hurry dad, before government forces me to buy an electric... But I hesitate ... Alfa quad 2024 Bmw M3 Competition Audi rs5 competition Uhm... Price, noise, value (sell in the future), cost for maintenance ... )
Hi mate, thanks for watching. I think if you drive all 3 cars together, you will like the interiors of the BMW and Audi better but if you want to fall in love with driving again, the Quadrifoglio is definitely the best! Mine has more options than my previous 2019 BMW e30 - heated steering wheel, retractable mirrors, heated seats, adaptive cruise and autonomous braking etc. etc The Giulia also holds its value very well. Maintenance on all these cars is similar and the Giulia is cheaper to buy I believe. Drive one and you will understand - the Giulia is a car for people who love to drive. (And who have style! 😎) the BMW and Audi are for everyone else!
@@TheAlfaNut thx for the message. Tomorrow I should receive the final offer for the limited edition super sport and also the 2024 facelift model (in Etna rosso). Wait and see 😎👍
Hi frined, for Odometer flashing also removing the batery and replece it with a hig amperaj wil make te Odometer flash? I have that isue on a 159 that i whant to buy
My first car was alfeta saloon 79'. Best time of my life and a big mony pit.
Should be able to sort out instantly if a wheel or prop shaft is out of balance. If you're sitting still, slowly rev your engine up and down through the rev range. If you feel a vibration, it's your propshaft. If you hear grumbling, vibration or no that's your center support bearing. (Check that you don't have a guibo missing a chunk and that your.alignment bushed centering the propshaft to itself in the middle, the engine at the front and the gearbox at the rear are in good order.) If not, check your tires (sorry, tyres) for wear, if they look good get your wheels balanced and make sure all your hardware is tight on the half shafts. Hopefully you have a mid '85 or later GTV6 with the removable crossmember. Makes pulling the prop shaft a breeze!
Hi mate, thanks for the helpful info - after checking for vibration at standstill, it isn’t there so I’m starting to wonder if there is a flat spot on one or more of the “tires” 😉 after being garaged for several years. I’ll be checking those next. PS my car is a 75 V6 (Milano) not a GTV6.
I like the one you got to drive! I've often wondered what a 3.0 in mine would be like. (And the Ronal A1s are THE best looking wheel on this car!) I didn't care for the raspy exhaust note though, mine is very mellow with a slight snarl sround 4000rpms from the 164S cams. I did see you have a 75 (I love the color) but pretty much everything is the same. (Biggest difference is that you probably have anti-lock brakes.) I myself would like to find an Alfa 6 with the single molded glass headlamps. Here's a video of my GTV6. It's old, but she still looks the same today except I now have center caps on the wheels and the old cracked quadrifolio stickers have been renewed. I did my first timing belt change on it two years ago after practicing on my 164 (the GTV6 is MUCH easier) and will be rebuilding my propshaft this spring. (Guibos are a constant source of maintenance. Just like the riming belt, figure about every 6 years or so.) Thankfully most jobs on the GTV6 are pretty straightforward.. ruclips.net/video/Ll6sFdpUZsc/видео.htmlfeature=shared
Helpful thank you. I'm thinking of buying a Giulietta petrol auto 2014. We presently have a Panda 4x4 with 1.3 T diesel. From new, it has had the same stop start "feature" as your Alfa so probably the same stop start control electronics. May not be a fault but the ECU deciding conditions/parameters not right to apply S/S at that particular stop? I don't let it bother me.
You bear the smile of the eternally long suffering, smitten with the Giugiaro creation that the Cybertruck really wants to look like. It's been since June of 1986 that I own one and it still stirs, inspires, and excites, much to the chagrin of several high performance leggy lovelies, which continue to depreciate.....
Yes Chris I have ordered one in Alfa red to keep my mito company ..👍🏻😀
I have a 159 2.2 petrol 6 speed manual goes good
Cheers for watching Steve - been reliable?
@@TheAlfaNut yes I am living in Australia
